Lily Hendey

(1880? - ????)

Although a precise date has yet to be established, it is believed that Lily was born in Bridgwater, Somerset between 1879 and 1880; her parents were Henry & Eliza.

At the time of the 1881 census, Lily's parents were living at Friarn Street, Bridgwater. Also in the property were six children including two year old Eliza L Hendy and 70 year old Elizabeth Bond. Given the number of Elizabeth's in the house it is considered that Eliza L may well be Lily and that she was known by her second name to avoid confusion.

Lily's father's occupation was recorded as 'mariner'. Elizabeth Bond was Lily's grandmother.

By the time of the 1901 census Lily had married Edward James Gilling, and was living with him at her parents home at 101 Friarn Street, Bridgwater. Also in the property was Lily's nephew Henry Hendy and 70 year old James Bond, believed to be Lily's uncle on her mothers side. Lily's husband was recorded as a Railway porter.

Further information about Lily has yet to be found.
