Edward James Gilling

(1877 - ????)

Edward James Gilling was the fifth child of Richard and Emma Gilling. He was baptised at St John's, Bridgwater on 23 November 1877 (ref 5c 383). The family were recorded as living at Bristol Road. He was later known as Jim.

The 1881 census reveals three year old Edward living with his mother, brother and sisters at 19 Bristol Road, Bridgwater. His father was away at sea.

At the time of the 1901 census Edward was living at 101 Friarn Street, Bridgwater with his wife Lily and in laws Henry and Eliza Hendey. He was recorded as James and worked as a Railway porter

On 14 December 1902, James was a witness at his sister Alice's wedding. The wedding took place at St John Baptist church Bridgwater.
