Lilian Gould

(1884 - 1951)

Lilian was born to Harriet and John Gould on 13th February 1884 in Kingsbrompton, Somerset and as a child attended Kingsbrompton School, starting at the age of 3 on 18th April 1887.

The School Admissions Book for Kingsbrompton School shows that Lilian was removed on the 7th of October 1887. The family of John Gould were known to be living in "Snelling's Houses" in Pontypridd just three days later on the 10th of October 1887.

On the 16th of May 1889 she was admitted (from Infants) to the Coedpenmaen Girl's School but was mysteriously removed just a few days later on the 24th of May 1889. She was re-admitted to the Girl's School (again from Infants) on the 21st of May in 1890 and on both dates her address was given as Coedpenmaen. No date of leaving is given.

The 1901 census shows that Lilian was living at 21, Mountain Ash Road, Abercynon with eldest sister Rosa Maria and her husband Charles Gregory. Also at the same address were Lilian's father John Gould and brothers George Henry and Ernest. Rosa's eldest son William was also listed. (At this time Lilian's mother Harriet and three youngest sisters are known to have been living at an address in Canton, Cardiff).

The 1901 census incorrectly records the ages (by as much as 17 years) and birth places of most of of the family at 21 Mountain Ash Road. A conclusive reason for this discrepancy has yet to be identified.

In 1904 she married Frederick T Kathrens (1882-1951) in Abercynon. (Frederick was previously known as Frederick T Von Kathrens but the "Von" had been dropped by the time of the marriage).

Lilian and Frederick are known to have kept a shop at 57, Margaret Street, Abercynon. They also lived at 18, Aberdare Road, Abercynon.
